Abstract :
Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are increasingly using subcontractors who have special skills for the manufacture of their products and whose effectiveness is primarily based on their ability to manage a varying workload efficiently. Within the contract electronics manufacturing industry the retention and development of the correct mix of people and skills is therefore essential. This paper highlights the main areas researched to date in a Teaching Company Scheme project investigating the factors affecting the specification of a skills structure within a contract manufacturing organisation
