Abstract :
Tying together as they do developments in the remote environment with changes in the operating environment, scenarios provide internally-consistent views of how the future may plausibly turn out. A range of such views prevents strategists from viewing the future simply as an extrapolation of the present. The major gain from scenarios lies in the process of their development, and in an understanding of the robustness of proposed strategies. Practical steps to aid the development process are explored.
