Abstract
This paper is concerned with the design of homopolar impulse-magnetization fixtures for isotropic NdFeB ring magnets. It discusses the merits of various fixture topologies and describes a design methodology that employs both analytical and finite-element techniques. It illustrates the utility of the design methodology by presenting a case study of the homopolar magnetization of annular isotropic NdFeB ring magnets for use in a tubular, linear permanent-magnet actuator. It examines the influence of the aspect ratio of the magnets on the actuator air gap flux density profile, and it compares predictions and measurements for different fixture designs
