Abstract :
The effect of lube thickness and long term parking on lube build-up and lube migration at head-disk interface has been investigated in this paper. A Surface Reflectance Analyzer (SRA) was used to measure the lube thickness and its distribution for lube build-up at the CSS zone. Results show that the area of lube build-up on CSS zone increases with increasing parking time and correlates well with measured parking stiction. The parking stiction is attributed to the meniscus force formed at the head-disk interface after long term parking. Furthermore, it is also found that the accumulated lube under the parking head migrates toward thin lube region rapidly once the parking head is removed and eventually recovers to the initial lube thickness within a day at ambient temperature
