Abstract :
On 23 August 2010, I paid US$8.00 to drive across the George Washington Bridge and enter New York City for the first time. I was moving into my new apartment in Morningside Heights, anxious to get settled and officially start graduate school. Bewildered by the complete absence of available street parking and foiled by the endless and bizarre parking restrictions, I felt immediately that this was going to be a rough transition.
