Abstract
Knowing what makes a measure inaccurate is a classic problem in instrumentation and measurement. This is not so difficult with physical measurement instruments that behave in predictable ways and can be calibrated. We know a lot about how to do this. For physical qualities, there is generally very little uncertainty about what is being measured and how accurate (or rather, inaccurate) that measurement is.
