Abstract
In this contribution we review our work on employing cellular automata to model the behavior of corroding and passivating systems where the spatial and temporal self organization of the process occurs. We present examples of simulations showing spontaneous cathodic and anodic zone separation in corroding systems and formation of nanopores in the passive layers.
