Abstract
The IEEE selected Rudolf Kompfner as the recipient of its 1973 Medal of Honor, "for a major contribution to world-wide communication through the conception of the traveling wave tube embodying a new principle of amplification." In addition, he contributed to the development of communication systems using earth satellites.
