Abstract :
The phenomenon of jump resonance occurs in the periodic response of a wide variety of electrical, mechanical and chemical systems, to name a few. Such multimodal systems have been extensively studied in the past three or four decades, yielding a large number of research papers on techniques for analysing such systems, as well as on their applications for industrial purposes. A summary of the various theoretical and practical aspects of the phenomenon of jump resonance, in a variety of nonlinear electrical systems, is presented in this paper. It is felt that a unified presentation of this type would be of interest to engineers working in the field of control and instrumentation.
