Abstract :
A new Chinese teletext system based on the compatible extension of NAPLPS (North American Presentation-Level Protocol System) is reported. Three key problems-Chinese character extension, error protection, and PDI (picture description instruction) implementation-are solved. Systematic open-air trial broadcasting on the Sichuan TV station demonstrates that the CPLPS teletext system is reliable and expressive, thus making it a promising candidate for the standard Chinese teletext system
