  • Abstract
The use of apodized Bragg fiber gratings for dispersion compensation, when operated in transmission, is discussed. Using a system simulation, it is shown that these devices have several intrinsic limitations. If these limitations can be overcome, apodized Bragg fiber gratings can be used to compensate a 10-Gb/s system over 200 km of standard fiber with an eye-closure penalty of less than 2 dB
