Abstract :
An integrated services digital network (ISDN)-based home communication system (IHCS) is proposed. It is designed to accommodate the ISDN central office based services as well as the home information products. The architecture, featuring functional message signaling and intelligent station set, allows call processing and feature enhancements. The IHCS architecture adapts to various types of home equipment offered by different vendors and ensures future system expansion. With its expandable messaging capability, the proposed IHCS will provide: a substantial improvement in the control of house functions such as continuous monitoring and surveillance of home security, energy management, and appliance control; enhanced data services, e.g. home automation and interactive information access; and enhanced voice services, e.g. intercom and call management features
