Abstract
A microprocessor based display system capable of generating and displaying the characters of any one of four languages-English, Hindi, Tamil, or Malayalam-as selected by the user is presented. Facilities are provided in the system for rolling a character string of 22 characters and displaying a lengthy test in moving form. Of the four languages, Malayalam has the greatest complexity in the shape and formation of various characters. The use of a 12×12 dot matrix display has maintained the nature and the shape of the majority of compound and extended letters fairly well
