The counting of random pulses

The paper considers various electronic and electro-mechanical means of counting pulses, with particular reference to the problem of counting pulses which are spaced randomly in time. Various means of measuring the mean rate of occurrence of such pulses are described, in particular means for measuring the duration of the counting period and automatically terminating the count at appropriate point. No detailed circuit descriptions are given, but there are numerous references to published circuits.
