Abstract
An exact formula for the π-mode stopband of an asymmetrical metal-segment-loaded helix is given, based on the concept of the developed tape helix. The formula, which includes all dimensions of the tape helix, support rods and metal segments, can calculate the stopband caused by asymmetries of the support rods and metal segments. The formula can be used in the design of high-power helix-type traveling-wave tubes
