Abstract :
Fernando Corbató is a pioneer in the development of time-sharing operating systems. He is well known for his work on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Compatible Time-Sharing System, an early version of which was demonstrated in 1961. After CTSS, Corbató and his MIT colleagues initiated development of the Multics (Multiplexed Information and Computing Service) time-sharing system in collaboration with General Electric and (initially) Bell Telephone Laboratories.
