Abstract :
Power system analysis, control and protection are all based on accurately frequency phasor measurements due to their explicit physical meaning and concise mathematical presentation. Rapidly development of power networks and widely uses of power electronic devices result in complicated transient during faults and disturbances in modern power systems. Some Prony-based methods, such as the matrix pencil method (MPM), are proposed recently to calculated frequency phasors in disturbance. But the heavy computation burden makes it is very difficult to realize in practices. In this paper, we proposed an improved MPM to reduce the computation burden with acceptable errors in order to realize the MPM-based frequency phasor estimation in protection systems. The order of the matrix is observably reduced by simplifying the form of the matrix pencil. Then the manipulation of pseudo-inverse is significantly cut down. The asymptotic time complexity of the proposed algorithm is much less than that of the conventional MPM. Analytical and experimental investigations show that the proposed algorithm can properly handle various transient signals.
