Abstract :
Effects of changes in the configuration of a high voltage transmission system networks on calculated 60 Hz magnetic field levels are presented. Maximum magnetic field levels beneath transmission lines and those at the edge of a specified width transmission right-of-way are discussed. Results show that changes to a transmission network through construction of new lines or relocation of generation can have significant effects on the 60 Hz magnetic field environment in the vicinity of existing power lines. The effect of transmission network changes on power system losses is also discussed, with emphasis on the need to evaluate proposed changes in terms of impact on the entire power system
