In memoriam: Cary R. Spitzer

IEEE AESS members and many people throughout the world were influenced and taught by Cary Spitzer who passed away November 8, 2011. Cary, who was a current member of the AESS Board of Governors, was a Fellow of the IEEE, an honor that is only achieved by exceptional people. He was an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and a cornerstone of the Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC) co-sponsored by the IEEE AESS and the AIAA DATC. He was awarded the IEEE Centennial Medal, an IEEE Millennium Medal, and the Digital Avionics Award. He was a Past President of the IEEE AESS and Past Chairman of the IEEE United States Activities Aerospace Policy Committee.
