Abstract :
A new method for selecting a magnetic film storage element from a matrix of elements which exploits the coherent rotational mode of reversal is described. It is shown that, by using a film made of a newly developed alloy ¿Gyralloy I¿, the reproducibility problems previously encountered can be solved. It is shown that the use of aluminium as substrate for the film enables the signal/noise ratio to be increased to an acceptable level even for very large stores; the drive power requirements are shown to be correspondingly reduced. Details are given of performance and construction of a storage device, which contains 50 words each of 50 bits.
