Abstract
This paper is concerned with the measurement of the ionization occurring in the upper atmosphere, using ground based techniques, with particular reference to the aurora and the incoherent scattering of radio waves from the ionosphere. The radar transmitters to be used in conjunction with the two 25 m parabolic reflectors at the Royal Radar Establishment are described, and some of the experiments which will be carried out are discussed.
