Abstract :
The assessment of any system of colour television depends to some extent on the colours chosen for the test. Electronically-generated colour bars may show faults which are non-existent in the transmission of ordinary pictures. A set of standard colours, which is typical of modern pigments and printing inks, is proposed for the purpose of assessing the colour and luminance fidelity of a colour television system. The method is illustrated for a constant-luminance colour television system (proposed by James and Karwowski) under two conditions: (i) ideal analysis, (ii) analysis by an existing colour scanner. The use of a uniform chromaticity diagram gives a convenient means of assessing the colour errors subjective terms.
