Abstract :
After a brief historical survey of radio telephony developments, the paper first looks at the present position of mobile radio, particularly paging, cordless telephone and cellular services. Consideration is then given to the rapid technological developments in electronic components and circuits (particularly digital technology) and the miniaturization of assemblies. The paper then suggests that these technological trends, together with the growing expectation of people to communicate more readily, will lead to new and extended mobile radio services which will eventually allow people to communicate `anytime, anywhere¿.
