Abstract :
This paper describes a calculation method that specifically addresses polymer insulators on ac transmission lines. The development is in response to a need for a fast calculation method to evaluate the effect of variables, including insulator, hardware, and configuration design parameters, on the electric field near the surface of sheds and end fittings and in the rod of polymer insulators. The results are valuable for the assessment of long-term performance of polymer insulators. This paper addresses the issue of comparison between three-phase lines and laboratory setups.
