The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters (GRSL) experienced in the past years a tremendous change, with the submitted papers increasing substantially from a total of 270 in 2006 to 558 in 2009. With a nearly constant rate of 45 papers submitted each month by authors from more than 30 countries around the world and a record number of 180 letters published in 2009, IEEE GRSL plays nowadays an important role among the refereed publications on the topics of geosciences and remote sensing, and this despite its rather short history,
