  • Abstract
    Muscle substitutes are defined and a description is given of some of those in use and under development. The possibility is suggested of controlling these devices by using the electrical potentials picked up over contracting muscles. Past experimental work in the field is discussed and the problems associated with it are described. Finally, the authors´ experimental control system is described and its performance is related to these problems.
