Abstract
In this application note, the fundamental characteristics and issues related to the design of transimpedance amplifiers for optical receivers have been presented. Guidelines for the design of distributed transimpedance amplifiers have been outlined. The analysis of the uncompensated distributed transimpedance amplifier has clearly identified the problems limiting the performance of the amplifier. The negative resistance compensation technique has been shown to provide a solution to overcome the performance limitation
