  • Abstract
Wireless sensor networks lifetime improvement is one of the challenges in recent years. For this, energy required to perform various tasks must be efficiently used such that energy consumption will be less. To achieve these requirements two protocols Actor Directed Clustering Protocol (ADCP) and Hybrid Energy Efficient Distributed (HEED) Clustering protocol are developed. These two methods focus on the energy consumption of each node to be less so that the total energy consumption get reduced. Clustering plays a vital role in wireless sensor network. Clustering is a new approach to efficiently utilize the energy of sensor nodes. In clustering the whole network is divided into groups. There is a head election in each group of sensor nodes, called as cluster head (CH). The CH is responsible to gather sensed data from its underlying sensor nodes and forward it towards actor node for necessary action, instead of every sensor node send its data to actor. This approach of HEED and ADCP protocols enhance the reduction of network traffic as well as resource utilization. This paper, review these two protocols and compare their energy consumption and transmission delay.
