Abstract
In an attempt to cope with annealing effects, temperature, and other dependencies, the radiation induced attenuation in optical fibers is processed at different wavelengths to extract the total dose. The validity of the approach is demonstrated for the annealing effects for the pure silica fibers with low Cl and high OH dopant concentrations in the fiber core. The heuristic “blackbox” analysis is further supported through deconvolution of the absorption bands from the spectral data sets and by exploiting the kinetic properties of the bands near 600 and 635 nm
