Abstract
The use of guided high frequency electromagnetic waves transmitted along the side of a railway track for the purpose of providing radar location of trains as well as continuous telephonic communication with drivers and guards on the trains is discussed. Attention is drawn to the advantages and shortcomings of different systems already investigated experimentally, and the direction in which further work now being pursued is likely to develop.
