Abstract :
We propose a tunable optical dispersion compensator (TODC) that uses an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) and a flat mirror. The TODC employs simple and cost-effective optics, and its chromatic dispersion can be changed simply by translating the AWG. We obtained a 3-dB bandwidth of 39 GHz when the dispersion was tuned within 800 ps/nm, and a maximum dispersion of plusmn3000 ps/nm.
