Abstract :
The design and performance of a rack mounted 167 Mbit/s coherent optical FSK system with an unrepeatered power budget of 59.7 dB is reported. For the first time a liquid crystal polarisation controller has been used in a coherent system field demonstration. Automatic start-up procedures are described.
