Abstract :
There is a growing demand for implementing low-power and low-cost wireless sub-soil sensing systems to support precision agriculture. This paper describes an RFID sub-soil system that is capable of hosting a range of sensors and communicating their measurements wirelessly to farming vehicles. In addition to providing an overview of the system, the paper presents the high-level design of the RFID reader and the RFID sub-soil sensor node. This paper also describes the implementation of a prototype sensor node and the implementation of the RFID reader using National Instruments PXI RF modules controlled using LabVIEW.
