Abstract :
Polarisation division multiplexing can double optical fibre capacity. The detection of interchannel interference in a receiver, and its employment as a control signal for polarisation tracking, is described. Transmission over 33 km of dispersion shifted fibre with a 6.25 picosecond polarisation mode dispersion tolerance is demonstrated
