Abstract :
There have been enough ludicrous weapons over the years to fill many a book on engineering folly. Perhaps one day I??ll tell you about the world??s first stealth bomber, the German Linke-Hoffman R1. It was a 1916 leviathan covered in transparent cellulose, which glinted so delightfully in the sun that it was perhaps the most visible plane of the whole war - or would have been if it had ever managed to get off the ground. I will however be confining myself to Russia, or at least hovering off its coast.
