Abstract
A perturbation analysis for stimulated backward Brillouin scattering (SBBS) in single-mode optical fibres is presented. Expressions for the effects of Bragg diffraction on the gain and threshold of SBBS are derived. The relation between the threshold of SBBS and the Bragg diffraction is reported for the first time. The authors have found that the strong Bragg diffraction increases the Brillouin gain and decreases the threshold of SBBS.
