Abstract
With a major restructuring and downsizing programme underway at Howden plc, the management team realised they were in need of someone with international change management experience. Severely limited by time, they appointed an interim director of human resources. The author discusses the company´s restructuring plans, centralised production, planning the manpower, dealing with different cultures, maximising the prospects for redundant staff and the benefits of restructuring.
