Abstract
In a vertically stacked open-gradient magnetic-separation (OGMS) array of high current density coils, any paramagnetic particle deflection can be achieved in principle, if the number of current stacks is made sufficiently large. Clearly, practical considerations of cost and size limit the number of stacks. The use of a nonlinear array of current stacks to circumvent this limitation is investigated
