Abstract :
A systematic study of magnetic and magnetooptical properties of Nd-Tb-Fe-Co films has been performed. It was found that substituting Tb for part of the Nd content is useful for improving the squareness of magnetization curves and also increases the easy-axis coercivity. However, the effect of the Tb addition is to reduce the Kerr rotation angle at wavelength shorter than 500 nm. The temperature dependence of coercivity obtained in fields up to 150 kOe indicates that the single ion model cannot fully account for the perpendicular anisotropy in an Nd-Fe-Co system
