Abstract :
THERE ARE many things that make an occupation a profession, from formal qualifications to its governance. One of the most important factors is the ethical dimension; the idea that in a profession you can expect to encounter ethical and moral questions, and those are an important part of your work. Sometimes this shapes a profession with a compulsory or voluntary code of conduct; at other times it takes the form of an oath, ancient or modern.
