Abstract
This paper briefly describes some of the advanced machine tool technology used in the design of an automated high precision manufacturing cell “DeltaTurn 40”, designed to meet the needs of the hard disc drive industry. Key features of the machine used to ensure lasting precision and speed of operation will be discussed. Results of extensive cutting trials on various ferrous and non-ferrous materials are used to show the machines achievable part precision. These are given in terms of Cpk values, surface finish quality, roundness, flatness and machining parameters used
