Abstract :
A 3D numerical model has been developed to predict the damage caused to carbon fibre composites (CFCs) as a result of a lightning strike. The predicted damage is a result of a thermo-chemical decomposition of epoxy under the heat flux from the plasma arc and Joule heat released in the bulk of CFC.
