Abstract
For the second and higher levels in the hierarchy of block coding, the first-order conditional probabilities are calculated so that the Markovian model can be applied for the direct evaluation of the probability of white blocks. The formulas presented enable the overall compression ratio of documents to be computed. A typical example is included to show the merits of multilevel block coding
