Abstract
This book tells the story of the development of the compact disc and its successors. Written by the Philips researchers and developers who participated in the successful and long-running Philips-Sony collaboration, it describes both the history of key technical decisions coupled with intercompany agreements that made possible so many commercially viable products, and the main attributes of the technologies, systems, and standards that resulted. Although stressing the Philips contributions, the book gives credit to the efforts of other companies.
