With the dedication of this issue of IEEE Industry Applications Magazine, we signal our collective commitment to electrical safety. In this issue, of particular note is the survey by Bruce McClung across the history of our progress. Electrical safe-work principles, codes, standards, laws, regulations, policies, and practices have evolved over the last 100 years. Many individuals have spent their lives in assuring that the difficult lessons learned about the behavior of electrical systems could be passed on to the next generation through published recommendations, engineering education, and apprenticeship training.
