Abstract
Many industry observers believe the key to the future of the Internet and corporate intranets will be the ability of the information infrastructure to quickly transmit large quantities of data. The Internet and intranets will need more speed and bandwidth in order to handle the much higher traffic levels the future will bring, as well as the bigger applications, such as multimedia, that people want to use on these networks. Additional speed will also help users reduce data transmission costs. The paper considers how developers are finding ways to provide more speed and bandwidth
