Abstract :
In distributed speech recognition applications, the frame rate of observation may be reduced to match a resource limited front end device. A method to adapt the transition probabilities of hidden Markov models to match the frame rate of the observation is proposed. Experimental results on connected digit recognition show that the recognition rates of the proposed adapted system using half frame rate data were comparable to those of the original system using full frame rate data.
