Abstract :
The transmission of 32 dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) channels at 10 Gbit/s over 450 km of dispersion managed cable using LEAFTM and sub-LSTM fibres, is demonstrated. The use of LEAFTM fibre in the high power region of transmission effectively reduces any nonlinear effects. Q values ranging from 7.5 to 11.1 (bit error rate (BER) between 2×10-14 and 6.3×10-29) were obtained for all channels without any extra dispersion compensation at the transmitter or receiver
