Abstract
The author discusses the last 25 years of the evolution of electronic design automation (EDA). He first examines the industry´s dynamics and describes how it has coped with the increasing complexity of circuits. He argues that survival in the electronic design automation industry depends on how well it can produce a sequence of properly planned follow-on products and addresses the evolution of the hardware and software platforms on which these products reside.<>
