Abstract :
AC and DC drives are compared, and the advantages of the former are outlined. Current-source converters and voltage- source converters with constant link voltage are reviewed, and modular software for application control is discussed. The software structure of the SAMI STAR is examined. Advantages and application of the AC converter drives are considered.<>
